Layering is the practice of building a fragrance experience through multiple products, each contributing to the overall scent. The warm water and steam open the pores, allowing the fragrance to penetrate the skin more deeply than a topical application would.

The body wash does not need to be heavily scented. In fact, a subtle fragrance is preferable. The Bridge: Body Lotion

After the shower, while the skin is still warm and slightly damp, apply a fragranced body lotion. This serves two purposes. First, it moisturizes the skin, creating a barrier that slows the evaporation of fragrance molecules and extends the life of the composition. Second, it adds a second layer of scent, building on the foundation laid by the body wash.

The body lotion is the bridge between preparation and signature. It is not the most concentrated layer of fragrance, but it is the most enduring. Applied to the entire body, it creates a subtle, all over scent that complements the more concentrated application of the perfume oil. The moisturizer in the lotion also helps the fragrance develop more fully, allowing the heart and base notes to emerge more richly.

The Signature: Perfume Oil

The final layer is the perfume oil, applied to the pulse points, wrists, neck, behind the ears, inner elbows. This is the most concentrated layer, the signature of the composition. It provides the intensity and projection that define the fragrance experience.

Applied over the body wash and body lotion, the perfume oil sits on a base of moisturized, fragranced skin. This base helps the oil develop more fully and last more hours than it would on bare skin. The layers work together, each contributing its own character to the overall experience. The body wash provides a foundation, the body lotion creates a bridge, and the perfume oil provides the signature.

Layering Across Collections

Layering is not limited to products within the same collection. Some of the most interesting fragrance experiences come from layering across collections, combining the luminous softness of Nishi Satin with the deep, smoky character of Nishi Noir. This creates a contrast that is more complex and more personal than either collection alone.

For example, you might use the Nishi Satin body wash and lotion as your base, then apply the Nishi Noir perfume oil as your signature. This creates a fragrance experience that is soft and deep, luminous and smoky, a composition that exists in the space between the two collections, uniquely yours.
